Total qualified1,47,579

I added the three qualifier figures and they total 1,47,579 which is 24.31% of those who appeared. That matches the 24.31% reported in the headline.

Caution: The reports I reviewed do not say whether the 6,07,151 figure includes or excludes the three re-exam subjects. Treat these numbers as the main result for the 84 subjects.

These come from one report and its labels for the categories differ slightly from the main result’s wording JRF and Assistant Professor instead of JRF and Assistant Professor and Assistant Professor and PhD so I have repeated them as reported. Check the NTA notice for the exact definitions.

UGC NET Result 2026: What the Three Qualifying Categories Mean

CategoryWhat It Means (as reported)
JRF and Assistant ProfessorEligible for a fellowship and for assistant-professor posts and PhD admission
Assistant Professor and PhD admissionEligible for assistant-professor posts and PhD admission but not for JRF
PhD admission onlyEligible for PhD admission only not for JRF or assistant-professor posts

Fellowship amounts from one report’s FAQ: ₹37,000 a month for the first two years as JRF and ₹42,000 for the next three years as SRF. The page did not clearly say per month for the second figure so confirm the rates on the official UGC site.

UGC NET Cut-Off 2026

Main result: NTA released category wise and subject wise cut offs on August 28 in a separate PDF. I could not open that PDF so I am not reproducing figures that I have not seen. One report gives only a rough guide around 40% for General and up to 35% for reserved categories which it describes as approximate.

The report says awards are based on aggregate performance across both papers and it gives no per-paper cut-offs. SC, ST and PwD cut-offs were not in the report I reviewed.

Why Were the English, Commerce and Sociology Papers Re-Conducted?

This is the part of the story that many results pages skip.

  • NTA received complaints about the June 2026 papers and formed a committee.
  • According to NTA’s public notice as quoted in a report the committee found that the three papers had “many factual typographical and translation errors.
  • The papers for English, Commerce and Sociology were cancelled and re-conducted on September 9 English and Commerce and September 10 Sociology.
  • A headline on another site describes the action as a re-exam after faulty questions. The date of NTA’s notice is given as August 16, 2026 in a court plea.

Court case: A candidate Parul Sheoran challenged the English re-test in the Delhi High Court. A report dated September 4 says that Justice Jasmeet Singh issued notice to the Centre and NTA and that the next hearing was listed for October 6, 2026. The petitioner argued that the decision was arbitrary and made without disclosing its basis. The court had also directed on August 31 that the authorities decide on a refund of the exam fee for the exam concerned. I did not find a ruling on the merits and I could not confirm what happened at the October 6 hearing.

What it means for you: The re-exam results were declared on September 17 so the case did not stop the process in the reports I reviewed. If you sat these subjects follow NTA’s notices for any change.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using lookalike websites. Several URL spellings circulate so use only the official NTA site.
  • Confusing the three categories. Only the first category is eligible for JRF.
  • Ignoring the re-exam result. If you sat English Commerce or Sociology your result is the re-exam one declared on September 17.
  • Quoting unofficial cut-offs. Use the NTA’s PDF not coaching estimates.
  • Missing the December deadline. It closes on October 28.
