CA Intermediate Passing Marks and Rules
According to the figures reported a candidate qualifies as follows
| Criterion | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Minimum marks in each paper | 40 out of 100 (40%) |
| Aggregate per group | 150 out of 300 (50%) |
| Both groups together | 300 out of 600 (50%) |
What this means in practice:
- To clear one group you need at least 40 in every paper of that group and an aggregate of at least 50% in the group.
- To pass both groups at once you must meet those conditions in both groups with at least 300 out of 600 overall as per the reported criteria.
- A paper below 40 can stop you from clearing that group even if your aggregate is above 50%.
Check the ICAI regulations for rules on exemptions retention of marks and the next attempt since details are not covered in the sources reviewed.

What the Last Session Looked Like CA Inter May 2026 Pass Rates
For context here is how the May 2026 result declared on June 24, 2026 looked according to a media report whose figures I could recompute from the numbers given
| Group | Appeared | Passed | Pass % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group I | 91,237 | 9,350 | 10.25% |
| Group II | 64,381 | 10,372 | 16.11% |
| Both groups | 33,304 | 2,820 | 8.47% |
Why this matters: CA Inter pass rates are historically low and a low result does not mean that you are a weak candidate. One headline from March 2025 also noted that the pass percentage stayed below 20% which is a different session and a useful reminder of how selective this exam is. One report expects the September 2026 pass rate to be lower than last time but it gives no number and no evidence so treat that as speculation.
What Will the Scorecard Show?
When you open your scorecard check these items
- Name, roll number and registration number
- Marks in each paper and group totals
- Result status for each group passed not passed or exemption details
- Any remarks from ICAI
If something looks wrong such as a missing paper an incorrect name or an unexpected status report it through ICAI’s official helpdesk or examination department and keep a screenshot.

What to Do After the CA Inter Result
If you passed one or both groups
- Download and save the scorecard for your records.
- Check the ICAI timeline for the next stage including articleship registration rules and the CA Final eligibility conditions in the current regulations.
- Plan your CA Final studies and note that eligibility conditions in the ICAI regulations apply so confirm them on the official website.
If you did not pass
- Do not panic. The pass rates above show how demanding this exam is.
- Look at the paper-wise marks to see where you fell short and by how much.
- Check whether you have marks retained or exemptions under ICAI’s rules.
- Check the next exam schedule and form dates on icai.org and plan the next attempt early.
- Consider scrutiny or verification options if the rules permit and your marks look far below your expectation. Check ICAI’s notices for the timelines and fees.
